How Does it Work?

Fibre optics, like those in the lamp, are made by drawing glass or plastic into long, strands with a diameter slightly less than a strand of hair. Light is directed in one end of the fibre and cannot escape. It bounces along through the fibre until it reaches the other end. This is how light is transmitted for most modern long-distance communications.
